Carl “CJ” Johnson returns to Los Santos in 1992, and twenty years on, the cheat codes for GTA San Andreas are still a playground all their own: jetpack, tank, super jump, citywide riot. The game launched on PS2 on October 26, 2004, then came back in the Trilogy The Definitive Edition on November 11, 2021, and it kept the overwhelming majority of its codes. Here’s the list that works in 2026, broken down by platform, with how to enter each code and the pitfalls to watch for.
One reminder before we start: all of these codes are for the single-player Story Mode. San Andreas has no official multiplayer on current versions, so there’s no risk of a ban, but cheating locks the trophies and achievements on your current save. More on that below.

A quick tip on method: on PlayStation and Xbox, the button order has to flow without too much dead time, but you can do it on foot, in a car or mid-flight. On PC, you type the word blind, nothing shows up on screen as you go, right up until the confirmation message.
How to enter a code on each platform
The logic hasn’t changed since the PS2: everything happens in the middle of the action, never from a pause menu.
- PlayStation (PS2, PS3, PS4, PS5) and Xbox: enter the button combination listed. A message confirms “Cheat activated” or warns you that cheating disables trophies.
- PC: type the keyword in uppercase (for example
HESOYAM) directly during gameplay. No console to open, no input field, the game simply listens for the keys. - Mobile: the touchscreen version, bundled into the Definitive Edition available through Netflix since December 14, 2023, has no cheat interface. You need to connect a Bluetooth keyboard, then type the keywords like on PC.
Classic codes and Definitive Edition phrases
One quirk of San Andreas: alongside the letter codes inherited from the 2005 PC version (HESOYAM, ROCKETMAN, BAGUVIX), the Trilogy The Definitive Edition added easier-to-remember phrases that produce the same effect. Both work side by side on PC and mobile. Here are the most useful equivalents.
| Effect | Classic code | Definitive Edition phrase |
|---|---|---|
| Health, armor and $250,000 | HESOYAM | INEEDSOMEHELP |
| Near-infinite health | BAGUVIX | NOONECANHURTME |
| Infinite oxygen underwater | CVWKXAM | MANFROMATLANTIS |
| Jetpack | YECGAA | ROCKETMAN |
| Rhino tank | AIWPRTON | TIMETOKICKASS |
| Super punch | IAVENJQ | STINGLIKEABEE |
| Citywide pedestrian riot | IOJUFZN | STATEOFEMERGENCY |
| Fog | CFVFGMJ | CANTSEEWHEREIMGOING |
Worth noting on ammo: the “unlimited fire without reloading” effect was already in the original San Andreas (classic code WANRLTW, or the controller combo above). So FULLCLIP isn’t a new effect, just the memorable phrase the Definitive Edition added for that same perk.
Cheats and trophies: the rule before you dive in
This is the one real pitfall, and it applies to the Definitive Edition just as much as the original versions.
- Trophies and achievements shut off the moment a code is entered, on that save. The game shows a clear warning as you type it in.
- The workaround: make a “clean” save before cheating, keep a save dedicated to the chaos, and reload the clean one whenever you want to go back to trophy hunting as if nothing happened.
- Some effects can’t be turned back off: the citywide riot (
STATEOFEMERGENCY) and pedestrian aggression stay active until you reload a save. - A few codes can jam a scripted mission or compromise 100% completion. Avoid saving over a serious playthrough right after cheating.
A GTA tradition, from the PS2 to GTA 6
Cheat codes have been part of the series’ DNA since the very first Grand Theft Auto in 1997, and San Andreas is arguably still the peak: the depth of its sandbox, the size of its map (Los Santos, San Fierro, Las Venturas and the countryside) and the variety of its vehicles give every code an enormous playground. It’s that “sandbox” philosophy that filtered all the way into the modern entries.
The same tradition shows up in GTA 5’s cheat codes, where Rockstar swapped some of the keywords for phone numbers. To place San Andreas in the timeline, check out all the GTA games in order and our San Andreas vs. GTA 5 comparison. And if you’re on the fence about rebuying the trilogy to replay San Andreas today, our verdict on the Definitive Edition in 2026 breaks it down.
That leaves the question of what’s next: what becomes of cheating in the next entry? Rockstar hasn’t said a word about it, and how much room is left for single-player codes will probably hinge on the weight of the online mode. In the meantime, keep an eye on the GTA 6 release date, set for November 19, 2026.
