Looking for a specific code? Pick your platform in the selector below and the list adapts (phone number, PlayStation or Xbox button combo, or PC keyword). One thing first: cheats only work in Story Mode, never in GTA Online.
All GTA 5 cheat codes
Platform
On the phone: pull out the character's cellphone, open the keypad (Contacts, then the call icon) and dial the number exactly as shown, including the 1-999, then place the call.
On the controller: enter the button combo during gameplay, fairly quickly, not inside a menu.
On the controller: enter the button combo during gameplay, fairly quickly, not inside a menu.
On PC: open the console with the ~ key (or ² on a French AZERTY keyboard), type the keyword in caps, then Enter.
Depending on your platform, three methods (all single-player only):
Phone (the easiest, on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series and PC): pull out the character’s phone, open the keypad, dial the number and call.
Controller (every console, including the original PS3 and Xbox 360): enter the button combo during gameplay.
PC: open the console with the ~ key (or ² on a French AZERTY keyboard), type the keyword in caps, press Enter.
Effects are temporary: they are not saved and often have to be re-entered. Invincibility, for instance, only lasts 5 minutes.
Why there is no money cheat
It is the most common question, and the answer is clear: there is no money cheat, in single-player or online. It is deliberate. In Story Mode, Rockstar built a whole system around legit wealth: the heists pulled by Michael, Franklin and Trevor pay seven-figure scores, and the stock market (the BAWSAQ and LCN indexes) lets you multiply your fortune, especially after Lester’s assassination missions. A money cheat would have gutted that mechanic.
On the GTA Online side, the stakes are economic: money is the engine of the live-service game, and injecting it through cheats would break the balance and the microtransaction market. That is why cheating there is hunted down and banned.
Cheats and trophies: the rule to know before cheating
The classic beginner trap. Activating a cheat disables achievements and trophies for the current play session. Worse, triggering a cheat during a mission can lock its 100% completion score.
The good news: this block is not permanent and does not damage your save. Just reload a save from before you used the cheat to get trophy and achievement progress back. The clean method, in one sentence: save in a separate slot, go wild with the codes, then reload your clean save when you want to make real progress.
A GTA tradition since 2001
Cheat codes are not a recent gimmick: they are part of the series’ DNA. As far back as GTA III in 2001, you activated them with button combos entered mid-game. Vice City and especially San Andreas burned now-iconic sequences into players’ memories, from the jetpack to flying cars. So GTA 5’s real novelty is not the principle, but the method: dialing a number on the character’s phone, an idea that arrived with the PS4, Xbox One and PC versions.
One question remains for the future: what will become of cheats in the next game? Rockstar has said nothing on the subject, and how much room single-player cheating gets will likely depend on the weight of the online mode. FAQ
Is there a money cheat in GTA 5?
No. Rockstar never included a money cheat, in Story Mode or in GTA Online. It is a deliberate choice: the three protagonists get rich through heists and the stock market (BAWSAQ/LCN), not a cheat. Online, handing out money would break the economy and is a bannable offense.
Do cheats work in GTA Online?
No, none. Cheats only work in single-player Story Mode. GTA Online runs on Rockstar's servers with anti-cheat protection: any tampering is punished, up to a permanent account ban.
Does using a cheat block my trophies and achievements?
Yes, but only for the current session. Activating a cheat disables trophies and achievements until you reload a save from before the cheat. The workaround: save before cheating, have fun, then reload your clean save.
How do I enter a code on PS5, PS4 or Xbox?
The easiest way is the phone: open it, go to the keypad and dial the code's number (for example 1-999-724-654-5537 for invincibility). Otherwise, enter the matching controller button combo during gameplay.
Do the codes stay active permanently?
No. Most effects are temporary and must be re-entered. Invincibility, for example, only lasts 5 minutes. Codes are not saved and will not corrupt your game.
