What Time Does GTA 6 Come Out? Unlock Times by Time Zone

GTA 6 unlocks at 12:00 a.m. ET on Thursday, November 19, 2026, in the US, according to PlayStation Store listings. That’s one nationwide timestamp, so the West Coast gets in at 9 p.m. PT on Wednesday, November 18. Preload opens a week earlier, on November 12. One caveat up front: Rockstar has confirmed the date, never the hour.

GTA 6 unlock times in the US

The US and Canadian PlayStation Stores share a single window at 05:00 UTC on November 19, as compiled by GTAVice.net from Sony’s regional listings and reported by Dexerto. Daylight saving time ends November 1, so Eastern is on EST (UTC−5) by launch night.

The Alaska and Hawaii rows are simple math on that same 05:00 UTC timestamp. The upside of a nationwide unlock is real: a Pacific player can be cruising Vice City before 10 p.m. on a school night. Notebookcheck reads the listing the same way, with Central, Mountain and Pacific getting in before their local midnight. Rockstar hasn’t confirmed it, so this table holds as long as Sony’s listing does.

Has Rockstar confirmed the launch hour?

No. For Grand Theft Auto VI, Rockstar’s own Newswire gave an hour for pre-orders (“midnight local time” on June 25) but only a date for the launch itself. GTABase notes that no launch hour appears on the official site or in the pre-order announcement.

Midnight local is still the safe bet. It matches how Rockstar handled GTA V in 2013 and Red Dead Redemption 2 in 2018, per GTABase. Your unlock also follows the region of your store account, not your console clock, so changing the system time does nothing.

The worldwide rollout, window by window

Sony’s listings across 63 countries show 15 release windows spread over 19 hours. Each one is midnight in the region’s main time zone (Perth or Brisbane, for instance, unlock before their own midnight). Here are the ones that matter most, in UTC and in Eastern time:

The catch for Americans: the US and Canada sit second to last. By the time the East Coast unlocks, Europe has been playing for six hours and New Zealand for 18. Expect story spoilers on social media all Wednesday afternoon.

Preload starts November 12

This part is official. Rockstar’s Newswire says digital pre-orders can start preloading on November 12, a week before launch. The boxed version also goes on sale November 12, and Rockstar Support confirms it holds a download code inside the box, not a disc. Either way, the full download is unavoidable.

Rockstar hasn’t announced the file size, and the numbers floating around are guesses (our GTA 6 file size guide sorts them out). A few practical moves for preload week:

• Turn on automatic downloads and leave the console in Rest Mode (PS5) or Sleep (Xbox) so it keeps pulling data overnight.
• Buy a boxed PS5 copy in your own account region: per GTABase, PlayStation codes are tied to region groups, while Xbox codes aren’t region-locked.
• No rush on the bonus: the Vintage Vice City Pack covers every purchase made before November 20, launch day included.

The Xbox question and the New Zealand trick

Every published schedule comes from the PlayStation Store. Microsoft hasn’t posted region-by-region times for Xbox Series X|S, so Xbox players should expect midnight local but can’t be sure yet.

That’s also where the famous New Zealand trick comes in. Xbox lets you change the console’s region in system settings, which is how some players reach New Zealand’s unlock 18 hours early, as Notebookcheck and Dexerto explain. On PS5, an account’s region can’t be switched: you’d need a separate New Zealand account and a second copy. It’s a workaround, not a feature, and we haven’t seen Rockstar comment on it.
