In a GTA Online lineup of businesses that has grown almost bloated, the Salvage Yard is still one of the best plays for a solo player. The concept: steal the most coveted cars in Los Santos to order, then resell them or strip them for parts. Here’s how to run it, how much it costs, and what it really pays.

The Salvage Yard, The Chop Shop’s car-theft business

The Salvage Yard landed on December 12, 2023 in The Chop Shop update. Behind the faded sign of Red’s Auto Parts, you team up with Yusuf Amir, the flashy Liberty City real-estate developer you first met in The Ballad of Gay Tony expansion, and his cousin Jamal. The scrapyard storefront is just a front: it’s discreet enough not to tip off the cops, while housing a shop built to lift ridiculously expensive cars.

In practice, the Salvage Yard opens two revenue streams. The first, the sideline: the Tow Truck (an upgrade) lets you haul vehicles you come across in free roam back to the shop and strip them for parts, a small passive income that trickles in over time. The second, the real engine: the vehicle robberies.

The vehicle robberies, the heart of the business

There are five robberies in total, three available each week. Each follows the same tempo: a scope-out to gather intel, a few prep missions out in free roam (one is optional), then a finale where you get your hands on the target car and bring it back to the Salvage Yard. Expect a small setup cost of around GTA$20,000 per robbery.

The Cargo Ship RobberyA vehicle containerGuarded cargo ship out at sea
The Gangbanger RobberyA car spotted through a gang leaderStreets of Los Santos

The Podium robbery, which has you swiping the car right in the middle of the Diamond Casino, is the most rewarding; the Gangbanger one pays the least. Depending on the car targeted, the resale runs around GTA$250,000 to GTA$405,000, on top of which you can add up to GTA$50,000 if you clear each robbery’s bonus challenges.

Resell or dismantle: two ways to cash in

Once the car is back, you get a choice. Reselling is the more profitable route: you quietly deliver the vehicle to the docks, where it ships out in a cargo container for Yusuf, in exchange for a one-time payment. Salvaging (dismantling) pays less but differently: the car is stripped for its parts over time in the shop, a spread-out income rather than one big immediate check.

One detail that matters: some target cars are rare models you can choose to keep for your own garage instead of selling them. That turns the Salvage Yard into as much a source of cash as a way to collect cars that are hard to get anywhere else.

Which Salvage Yard to buy, and for how much

You buy the Salvage Yard on the Maze Bank Foreclosures website, through your phone’s browser, from five locations. They all unlock the same robberies: the only real criterion is distance. A central yard saves you endless round trips during the scope-outs and preps.

LocationBase priceWhy it’s worth it
La PuertaGTA$2,690,000South Los Santos, very central
StrawberryGTA$2,570,000The most convenient, center of the map
Murrieta HeightsGTA$2,420,000East side of the city, decent
Sandy ShoresGTA$2,030,000Cheap but out of the way
Paleto BayGTA$1,620,000The cheapest, way up north

Add the upgrades if you feel like it: Trade Rates (better payouts), Tow Truck, Wall Safe, and Staff. Fully kitted out, the Salvage Yard comes to about GTA$5,690,000. None of it is required to start: the robberies run the moment you buy the bare property.

Is the Salvage Yard worth it in 2026?

Yes, if you’d rather play than wait. Where the nightclub or the bunker fill up stock while you do something else, the Salvage Yard rewards active play: one completed robbery is several hundred thousand GTA$ for about twenty minutes of missions, all solo. Rockstar regularly piles on during event weeks, with multipliers on the Salvage Yard’s payouts.

It’s also one of the most accessible businesses for a player just starting out and looking to build a bankroll without leaning on a crew. If you’re building an empire, it pairs well with the Agency from The Contract and the Cayo Perico heist solo, two other pillars of solo play. That leaves the question on everyone’s mind: will these businesses survive the arrival of the next game? We dig into it in our analysis of the future of GTA Online against Grand Theft Auto VI, due on its November 19, 2026 release date. Until then, the Salvage Yard remains one of the best ways to pad your bank account in Los Santos.

FAQ

How much does a Salvage Yard cost in GTA Online?

The base price ranges from GTA$1,620,000 for Paleto Bay, the cheapest, to GTA$2,690,000 for La Puerta, with Sandy Shores (GTA$2,030,000), Murrieta Heights (GTA$2,420,000), and Strawberry (GTA$2,570,000) in between. The locations are equivalent for the missions: just pick the most central one to shorten the back-and-forth. Fully customized and upgraded (Trade Rates, Tow Truck, Wall Safe, Staff), the yard comes to around GTA$5,690,000.

How much does a vehicle robbery pay?

Reselling the stolen vehicle pays roughly GTA$250,000 to GTA$405,000 depending on the car targeted, with the Podium Robbery (at the Diamond Casino) being the most lucrative and the Gangbanger one paying the least. Each robbery also comes with a set of bonus challenges that add up to GTA$50,000. You'll need to subtract a small setup cost of around GTA$20,000 per robbery.

Can you do the Salvage Yard robberies solo?

Yes, all five vehicle robberies can be completed entirely solo, in a private session, which makes it one of the best businesses for playing alone alongside the Acid Lab and the Cayo Perico heist. That's actually one of its advantages over the big classic heists, which often require teammates.

Which Salvage Yard is the best to buy?

For efficiency, aim for a central location. Strawberry is the most convenient since it sits near the center of the map and most other businesses, which cuts down on travel during the scoping and prep phases. The northern yards (Sandy Shores, Paleto Bay) are cheaper but force long round trips into Los Santos.

Is the Salvage Yard worth it in 2026?

Yes, as long as you enjoy active play. A full robbery run start to finish pays several hundred thousand GTA$ for about twenty minutes of missions, and Rockstar regularly boosts the Salvage Yard's payouts during event weeks. It's not passive income like the nightclub: you have to play the scope-outs and the finales, but the hourly return is excellent.
