Red Dead Redemption Cheat Codes: The Complete List

Yes, Red Dead Redemption has cheat codes, and they’re more generous than its sequel’s: invincibility, infinite ammo, unlimited Dead Eye and two full arsenals. They’re phrases you type in, and they work on every version sold today, from PS4 to Netflix mobile. Here are all 21 exact phrases, the Social Club codes unlocked by default and the one trap to know before you start cheating.

How to enter a cheat in Red Dead Redemption

Pause the game, open Options, then the Cheats tab. At first, the list only holds the Social Club codes that come unlocked by default (more on those below). To bring up the text field, press Triangle (PlayStation), Y (Xbox), X (Switch) or F (PC), type the phrase and confirm.

Three rules head off most failures:

• Capitalization doesn’t matter: uppercase or lowercase, the game couldn’t care less.
• Punctuation does: miss a period, comma, apostrophe or exclamation point and the phrase gets rejected.
• You only type each cheat once: it stays stored in the list, where you can toggle it on and off with a click.

A nice bit of lore spotted by iRedDead: these phrases didn’t come out of nowhere. Rockstar also hid them in the game world, painted on walls and printed in newspapers. The menu, though, accepts every one of them from the first hour, with nothing to unlock beforehand.

The catch: trophies and saving get locked

The Netflix Help Center, which supports the mobile version, spells it out: as soon as a single cheat is active, autosave is disabled and trophies and achievements stop unlocking. To get back to normal, you have to reload a save made before you cheated, or start a new game.

You can still save manually at a safehouse, but iRedDead notes that the file then gets flagged with an asterisk in the save list: it stays “tainted.” The clean way to do it:

1. Save to a dedicated slot before you enter a single cheat.
2. Cheat on a different save, set aside for chaos.
3. Reload the first one whenever you want to pick your normal progress back up.

The upshot for trophy hunters: don’t expect to pop “On the Trail of de Vaca” (discover every location on the map) with the map cheat, or “Man of Honor” with the fame and honor cheats. Cheat on, trophies off.

Combat and weapon cheats

The invincibility cheat is the big difference from RDR2’s cheats, which don’t offer one at all. It has its limits, though: according to Sportskeeda, John is still vulnerable in duels and can still drown. Infinite Dead Eye, meanwhile, hides the game’s most famous gag: the official phrase contains a typo, “imnfinity,” found both in the 2010 PS3 list and in current guides. Spell “infinity” correctly and the game will reject the code.

On the weapons side, set 1 gives you the Volcanic Pistol, the Springfield Rifle and the Double-Barreled Shotgun. Set 2 adds the Buffalo Rifle, Fire Bottles (Molotov cocktails), the Sawed-Off Shotgun, the Schofield Revolver, the Semi-Automatic Pistol and the Winchester Repeater. That’s enough to skip a good chunk of your progression at the gunsmith.

Money, bounty and reputation cheats

No infinite money here: the Money cheat pays out $500 per activation, and that’s it. You can repeat it, but with autosave turned off, the payoff is limited. The most useful one in the bunch is Diplomatic Immunity: it wipes your current bounty and, per iRedDead, the marshals then ignore your crimes. Perfect for raising hell in Armadillo without ending up on the gallows.

Watch the punctuation on Good Guy. Both the iRedDead list and the Cheat Happens list (2010) give “It aint pride. It’s honor,” with no apostrophe in “aint” and a period in the middle. Some recent guides write “It ain’t pride, it’s honor”: if one version gets rejected, type the other. Horse, transport and map cheats

Lewis and Clark reveals every area of the map. Coach spawns a stagecoach, wagon or cart next to you depending on which guide you read, handy for a quick trip. Horse delivers a random horse, the fix for when your mount just went down in the middle of nowhere.

Outfit cheats and goofy cheats

According to GamesHedge, Sharp Dressed Man unlocks the Gentleman, Legend of the West, Rancher and Elegant Suit outfits, while Gang Chic unlocks the Walton Gang, Bollard Twins, Treasure Hunter, Bandito and Reyes’ Rebels outfits. Old School applies a sepia filter that makes the game look like an old silent movie.

The real danger on this list is Jack Attack. It swaps John out for his son Jack, but several guides, GamesHedge included, point out that it marks every story mission as completed. Only use it on a throwaway save, never on your first playthrough.

Social Club codes, unlocked by default

Back in 2010, a second batch of cheats wasn’t typed in: you earned them on Rockstar’s Social Club website, by linking your account or beating challenges. The Title Update 1.08 notes (PS3 version, rolled out to the other platforms), published by Rockstar Support, confirm that this content was unlocked for everyone: 7 codes from the website and 10 from the challenges, for a total of 17 named codes. On the modern versions, Sportskeeda and GamesHedge say they show up right in the list, ready to switch on.

The guides add an eighteenth code, Hitchcock, which fills the sky around you with birds. It isn’t on Rockstar’s list, but both Sportskeeda and GamesHedge include it. The same rules apply: switching on a Social Club code also shuts off trophies.

Undead Nightmare: 9 phrases accepted

The zombie expansion uses the same menu, but not every phrase. According to iRedDead, only 9 of the 21 typed phrases work in Undead Nightmare: invincibility, infinite Dead Eye, horse stamina, infinite ammo, horse, weapon sets 1 and 2, the sepia filter and drunkenness. The money and honor cheats stay in the list, but the game rejects them with a message saying they can’t be used “during any activity.” The Social Club codes carried over from the base game show up too, with no guarantee they’ll work: test them one by one.

The good news: against hordes of the undead, infinite ammo and invincibility are exactly the two that matter.

Cheats on PS4, Switch, PC, PS5 and mobile

Good news if you’re just discovering the game now: the phrases are the same on console and PC. The Netflix Help Center even says codes from the other versions should work on the mobile version.

The only thing that changes is the button that opens the text field: Triangle on PlayStation, Y on Xbox, X on Switch and F on PC.

RDR1 vs. RDR2: two takes on cheating

Between the two games, Rockstar tightened the screws. In Red Dead Redemption, all 21 phrases are available right away and invincibility exists. In RDR2, according to RDR2.org, most cheats are unlocked by buying newspapers in a specific chapter, there’s no invincibility at all, and an active cheat blocks saving entirely. The first game is still the best playground for chaos lovers.
