What’s the fastest car in GTA Online? In 2026, the answer comes down to two words: Banshee GTS. Bravado’s coupe peaks at 138 mph (222 km/h) on a straightaway, once fully upgraded. But behind that number lies a whole art of measurement, and a ranking far tighter than it looks.

After more than ten years of updates, GTA Online lines up close to 800 vehicles. Finding the fastest one isn’t a matter of opinion, then: it’s a matter of method. Here’s how to make sense of it, and the up-to-date ranking.

How top speed is actually measured in GTA Online

The numbers shown in-game, on each vehicle’s stat card, are worthless: they’re relative and misleading. For years, the community has leaned on the testing done by Broughy1322, who times every car fully upgraded, on a long straightaway, to get a real, comparable top speed. That’s the data GTABase uses, and the data we use here.

Two notes for the discerning. First, we leave out rocket-boost vehicles (Vigilante, Scramjet, Arena War machines): their peak only exists during the boost, so it’s not a true cruising speed. Second, top speed doesn’t mean best car. On a circuit, acceleration, stability and above all handling decide the lap time. A Pariah or an Itali RSX, slightly slower at the top end, often beat faster rides in an actual race.

HSW: speed unlocked on next-gen and PC

There’s a second, parallel ranking. On PS5, Xbox Series X|S and now on PC with GTA 5 Enhanced (free update from March 4, 2025), a mechanic named Hao offers exclusive upgrades at the LS Car Meet, the Hao’s Special Works (HSW). They push the top speed of a select group of vehicles into absurd territory. The HSW leaderboard:

Bravado Banshee GTS: 172.5 mph (277 km/h), the outright record on the ground.
Grotti Itali GTO Stinger TT: 168.5 mph (271 km/h).
Declasse Tampa GT: 166 mph (267 km/h).
Shitzu Hakuchou Drag: 157.5 mph (253 km/h), the fastest motorcycle.
Karin S95: 156.5 mph (252 km/h).

All of this grew out of the tuning scene introduced by the Los Santos Tuners update in 2021, which made the LS Car Meet the heart of the game’s car culture.

Bravado Banshee GTS, 138 mph

The reigning queen of 2026. The Banshee GTS dropped with the Agents of Sabotage update (December 2024) and dethroned everyone with 138 mph (222 km/h) on a straightaway, fully upgraded. A Sports-class ride inspired by the Dodge Viper GTS, it sells for $1,989,500 at Legendary Motorsport. The cherry on top: on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC Enhanced, its HSW parts push it to a ridiculous 172.5 mph. It's the best raw buy right now for anyone who just wants to go fast.

BF Weevil Custom, 137.5 mph

The dark horse of the ranking. The Weevil Custom, released with Criminal Enterprises (October 2022), is a souped-up race Beetle built at Benny's Original Motor Works, and it grazes the Banshee at 137.5 mph (221 km/h). A Muscle-class car based on a VW Beetle Rat Rod, it costs just $980,000, half the price of the Banshee. The best speed-per-dollar in the game, and a genuine one-of-a-kind look.

Progen Luiva, 136.25 mph

The pure supercar. The Luiva, added by the A Safehouse in the Hills update (December 2025), tops out at 136.25 mph (219 km/h). A true Super-class car inspired by the McLaren Elva (a windscreen-less roadster), it's the priciest of the front-runners at $2,697,500. For the purists who want their speed wrapped in an exotic body rather than a beefed-up Beetle.

Ocelot Pariah, 136 mph

The former queen, and still a legend. The Pariah ruled top speed from 2017 to 2022, ever since the Doomsday Heist, before being edged out by a hair. At 136 mph (219 km/h) for $1,420,000, it's still one of the best race picks in the game: beyond raw speed, its exceptional handling makes it a deadly weapon on a circuit. Inspired by a mix of the Aston Martin V12 Zagato and a Ferrari, it's the connoisseur's ride.

Grotti Itali RSX, 134.5 mph

The ultimate race car. The Itali RSX, which arrived with the Cayo Perico Heist (December 2020), caps out at 134.5 mph (216 km/h) for $3,465,000. Inspired by the Ferrari SF90 Stradale, it's regularly named among the best race cars in the game: slower at the top end than the Banshee, but unbeatable when you have to string corners together. Proof, once again, that the speedo number doesn't tell the whole story.

Is the fastest car the best for racing?

Not necessarily. Top speed pays off on long straights, but on a circuit it's handling, acceleration and stability that usually decide the outcome. Cars that are a touch slower at the top end, like the Itali RSX or the Pariah, are excellent race cars thanks to their grip.

Why isn't the Vigilante in the ranking?

Because it cheats. The Vigilante, the Scramjet and the Arena War vehicles only hit absurd speeds thanks to their rocket boost, which is temporary and not representative of a true top speed. Serious rankings, like Broughy1322's, leave them out to compare like with like.

How much does the fastest car in GTA Online cost?
