No need to sell a kidney: FiveM officially asks for less than a current entry-level gaming PC. But real GTA RP, with servers packed full of custom vehicles, added interiors and scripts, demands noticeably more than the base game. Here are the official specs, the real bottlenecks, and our recommended build, part by part.
FiveM officially requires double the RAM of GTA V
Let’s start with the official numbers, straight from the Cfx.re docs and Rockstar. They already tell a story: FiveM carries over GTA V Legacy’s processors and graphics cards, but doubles the required RAM. That’s no accident; it’s the cost of the assets servers pile on.
| GTA V Legacy (official) | FiveM (official) | GTA V Enhanced (official) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Minimum CPU | Core 2 Quad Q6600 / Phenom 9850 | Core 2 Quad Q6600 / Phenom 9850 | Core i7-4770 / FX-9590 |
| Minimum GPU | 9800 GT 1 GB / HD 4870 1 GB | 9800 GT 1 GB / HD 4870 1 GB | GTX 1630 4 GB / RX 6400 4 GB |
| Minimum RAM | 4 GB | 8 GB (4 can work) | 8 GB |
| Recommended CPU | Core i5-3470 / FX-8350 | Core i5-3470 / FX-8350 | Core i5-9600K / Ryzen 5 3600 |
| Recommended GPU | GTX 660 2 GB / HD 7870 2 GB | GTX 660 2 GB / HD 7870 2 GB | RTX 3060 8 GB / RX 6600 XT 8 GB |
| Recommended RAM | 8 GB | 16 GB | 16 GB (dual channel) |
| Storage | 125 GB (HDD okay) | 105 GB + 4 to 8 GB of cache | 105 GB, SSD required |
Those minimums date back to a game released in 2013: a Q6600 from 2007 might launch FiveM, but it won’t survive ten minutes on a packed RP server on a Saturday night. Read these tables as an absolute floor, and the Enhanced column as the real target.
The real RP bottleneck: the CPU, the RAM and the SSD
An RP server is not vanilla GTA V. Every community adds its detailed vehicle packs, its custom interiors (the famous MLOs), its clothing, its dozens of scripts running nonstop: jobs, the economy, the phone, the inventory. All of it gets streamed to your machine and stacked on top of the base game, which is why the official docs budget a dedicated cache on top of the 105 GB.
The very concrete consequences for your parts list:
- CPU first. The RAGE engine from 2013 leans heavily on per-core performance, and server scripts pile on more. Between two budgets, favor a recent high-clock CPU over a bigger graphics card.
- RAM next. 16 GB is the comfortable minimum, 32 GB is peace of mind on heavy servers, especially with Discord, a browser and an overlay open on the side.
- The SSD, non-negotiable. Assets load continuously while you drive: on a hard drive, that means guaranteed pop-in, ghost textures and framerate drops. A 1 TB NVMe absorbs the game, the cache and its inevitable growth.
- VRAM last. High-definition car packs eat video memory: 8 GB of VRAM has become the right standard for stress-free play at 1080p or 1440p.
Our recommended GTA RP build for 2026
Here are our three in-house tiers, designed for RP rather than benchmarks. These are editorial recommendations: equivalent parts from another brand will do the job just as well.
| Part | First server (1080p) | The sweet spot (1440p) | Comfort and streaming |
|---|---|---|---|
| CPU | Ryzen 5 5600 / Core i5-12400F | Ryzen 5 7600 / Core i5-13400F | Ryzen 7 7800X3D / Core i7-14700F |
| RAM | 16 GB DDR4 | 32 GB DDR5 | 32 GB DDR5 |
| Graphics card | RTX 3050 8 GB / RX 6600 | RTX 4060 / RX 7600 | RTX 4070 Super / RX 7800 XT |
| Storage | 1 TB NVMe SSD | 1 TB NVMe SSD | 2 TB NVMe SSD |
And don’t forget the most important RP peripheral, which doesn’t cost as much as a graphics card: a good microphone. Proximity voice is the heart of roleplay, and a decent headset mic or a cardioid USB mic will do more for your immersion (and everyone else’s) than ten extra FPS. If you’re just starting out, our guide on how to start GTA RP on FiveM pairs well with this one.
GTA V Enhanced will become FiveM’s new standard
Since March 4, 2025, GTA V Enhanced has been a free upgrade for everyone who owns the game on PC: ray tracing (shadows, reflections, ambient occlusion and global illumination), DLSS and FSR, faster loading, ambient animals and the Hao’s Special Works vehicles. It’s also the version that raises the bar on requirements: an SSD is mandatory even at minimum, with an RTX 3060 and 16 GB of RAM recommended.
Why bring this up in an RP guide? Because FiveM is headed there. On March 18, 2026, Cfx.re officially announced development of FiveM for GTAV Enhanced: a rebuilt OneSync networking engine (less bandwidth, CPU and memory used for the same player count), still up to 2,048 players per server, backward compatibility for Lua, JavaScript and C# scripts, and early access promised “in the coming months.” Part of the code is going closed-source along the way, a sign of deeper integration with the base game.
The context makes this migration all the more strategic: after the RAGE:MP shutdown demanded by Take-Two, FiveM has become the only authorized RP platform, and it broke its own record with more than 200,000 concurrent players on Steam. If you’re building a PC for RP today, size it for Enhanced: that’s where the whole ecosystem is converging.
GTA 6 will have to wait for its PC version
Rockstar has not announced Grand Theft Auto VI on PC for the November 19, 2026 launch, and the series’ history points to a delayed port: we break down the scenarios in our deep dive on GTA VI on PC. Next-generation RP will have to wait for that PC version too. Until then, the build above has a double payoff: it lets you play comfortably on FiveM tonight, and it makes an excellent foundation to upgrade when the day comes.
