Almost every day, some site blasts out “GTA 6’s weapons have leaked” in all caps. The reality is simpler and a lot less dramatic: we already know a fair amount, but nearly all of it comes from two trailers, a handful of official screenshots, and an old leak from 2022. Let’s sort out what Rockstar has actually shown, what’s only “reported,” and what’s just recycled rumor.
The weapons Rockstar has actually confirmed
Rockstar has released only two trailers, in December 2023 and May 2025, plus a run of official screenshots. Everything that’s genuinely confirmed comes from there. The IMFDB database, which makes a rule of using only those official sources, lets us identify the models seen on screen.
On the handgun side, we’ve spotted a semi-automatic pistol that looks like a SIG Sauer P320 and Glock hybrid (Lucia’s weapon, near the end of the first trailer), an M1911 carried by Jason and by a cop, and a revolver dubbed the “Mustang .357” in one screenshot, which is really a Colt Python rebranded under the in-house “Duke” label. On the long-gun side, AR-15s and an M4A1 marked “Duke” show up during the police raid in the first trailer, an MP5 submachine gun is handled by both protagonists in the second, and several screenshots show a double-barrel shotgun, a Remington 700 bolt-action rifle and a Ruger 10/22 carbine. The only clearly confirmed heavy weapon: the Milkor grenade launcher, which Lucia lets rip in Trailer 2.
A detail that speaks to the hardcore crowd: the fictional “Duke” brand isn’t new. It’s the Colt pastiche Rockstar already uses in Red Dead Redemption 2, a sign that GTA 6 is reusing a whole catalog of in-house manufacturers (“Shrewsbury” turns up too). And the same AR-15 reappears across several visuals in different configurations, stocks, optics, rails and barrel lengths, which points to deep customization.
| Weapon / element | Status | Where it comes from |
|---|---|---|
| Mustang .357 revolver, MP5, AR-15/M4 "Duke" | Confirmed | Trailers and official screenshots |
| Milkor grenade launcher | Confirmed | Trailer 2 (Lucia) |
| Limited loadout, rebuilt weapon wheel, customization | Reported | 2022 leak and dataminers |
| Harpoon, RPG, mini-SMG, heavy machine gun, smoke grenades | Rumor | 2022 hack, unconfirmed |
The weapon system is “reported,” not “confirmed”
This is where most articles go off the rails. Those much-hyped gameplay changes, a limited loadout of two rifles and two pistols with the rest stashed in the car trunk Red Dead Redemption 2 style, a rebuilt weapon wheel, customization through tints and special ammo, are not confirmed by Rockstar. They come from analysis of the 2022 leak and from dataminers like Tez2, who notes himself that some of these ideas “may have been dropped since.” It’s a credible lead, but it’s still “reported,” not an official word. The distinction changes everything: a serious site flags it, a clickbait site erases it.
Where the “weapon leaks” really come from
Nearly all the “leaked” weapons making the rounds, harpoon, RPG rocket launcher, mini-SMG, a playable M249-type heavy machine gun, smoke grenades, Molotov cocktails, crowbar, trace back to a single event: the Rockstar hack of September 2022, when close to 90 videos from a development build leaked. These are genuine stolen images of a work-in-progress game, so they’re serious clues, but they’re more than three years old and may well have changed. Out of respect for Rockstar’s work and for legal reasons, we’ll discuss them without republishing those stolen images. ”Every weapon has leaked,” why that’s false
Let’s get to the headlines that prompted this article. When a site like lacremedugaming runs “GTA 6, every weapon has leaked and it’s huge” on May 27, 2026, it contradicts itself within its own text: its first subhead is titled “The weapons confirmed by Rockstar Games.” In other words, the article itself admits these are weapons already shown officially, plus some lingering old leaks. No scoop, just packaging. Its peer weareplaystation had run the exact same kind of headline a year earlier, “huge once again,” proof that the formula is a clickbait template, not information.
The best tell is what the real sources were actually talking about at the same moment. In May 2026, the credible insiders, Tom Henderson at Insider Gaming and Jason Schreier at Bloomberg, weren’t discussing weapons but preorders: a leaked Best Buy email suggested an opening on May 18, which Henderson judged unlikely and which never happened. That was the real news of the period. When a site screams “every weapon has leaked” without naming a single dated source, it’s almost always recycled content.
For reference, 59 weapons in GTA 5, 109 in GTA Online
That leaves the real question: how big will GTA 6’s arsenal be? With no official number, we can lean on history. GTA 5 offered around 59 weapons in single-player, split across eight categories, and GTA Online has piled up close to 109 through update after update. With an even richer RAGE engine and the Euphoria physics that handles reactions to gunfire and ragdolls, the feel of the weapons promises to be the most polished in the series. The launch arsenal, though, remains a mystery Rockstar will reveal on its own schedule. For the rest of the differences with the previous installment, we broke it all down in GTA 5 vs GTA 6.
